What is the Metropolitan Youth Orchestra working on these days? These videos are to inspire our students to practice (it's fun to play along) and to show our parents and audience members what they look forward to hearing on May 5 at the Alys Stephens Center prior to the ASYO concert and our spring performance on May 11.

Amazing Grace has great significance as Birmingham is celebrating 50 years of civil rights (see my previous blog for the back story to Amazing Grace: No Civil Rights in Music?) so the MYOCA will be performing this arrangement by Del Borgo:

Largo from Dvorak's New World Symphony was influnced by the African-American spirituals that he heard when he visited the United States. "Goin' Home" was later adapted by a black composer Dvorak befriended while in the USA . It is truly one of the most beloved slow, lyrical pieces in the orchestral repertoire:

To show the excitement for the future of Birmingham, we're finishing with the famous Russian Sailor Dance by Gliere:

Enjoy these videos and support youth orchestra where you are.
