Teach

By learning you will teach; by teaching you will learn.  -- Latin Proverb

One of the most beautiful things about this organization is the teaching. We invite everyone to turn to their neighbor to share what they have learned about music, about their instrument. That's when doors open up between people. That's when they forget how far apart they were physically, socially, economically before they sat down at a music stand together.

We begin with a core of paid teachers who have solid knowledge of music theory and proven skills on at least one instrument. We supplement with skilled volunteers who have a passion for our mission. Students who have reached an advanced skill level are invited to teach under the supervision of a core teacher. This is a way for the student to give back. However, when a student has to articulate what they have learned in order to explain it to someone else, they, themselves, develop new understanding.
