Metropolitan Youth Orchestras of Central Alabama
Our Mission: The Metropolitan Youth Orchestras of Central Alabama is dedicated to making music instruction and ensemble playing available to all, thereby developing character and sense of community.
We teach orchestral instruments, piano, and guitar to ages 8 to 18, including children with disabilities. Participating students may borrow instruments that they can also use in their school's music program.
Scrollworks’ Fall 2026 program will offer Saturday music instruction from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., with orchestra rehearsal beginning at 9:00. Students may study strings, woodwinds, brass, piano, guitar, percussion, recorder, music theory, composition, and rhythm in 30-minute or one-hour classes. New classes planned for this fall are string bass, marimba, theater classes designed to help students manage performance anxiety and develop stage presence, and Nelken Line Leader training. Students who are ready to prepare and maintain a small repertoire may also join the new Community Performance Ensemble, which will represent Scrollworks at 2 or 3 local events during the semester. Instruments may be borrowed at no additional charge when available.
Beginners and returning students are welcome, including students with disabilities who may benefit from an individualized or team-teaching approach.
Scrollworks is an approved Alabama CHOOSE Act Education Service Provider.
